What do I need to study Psychology at university? 

You typically need 112 UCAS points. A Foundation Year route is available for those with fewer points or relevant life experience. We welcome applications from mature learners and those with non-traditional qualifications. 

What jobs can I get with a Psychology degree? 

Graduates can pursue careers in clinical, counselling, educational, forensic, health and occupational psychology through postgraduate training. The degree also opens opportunities in teaching, research, youth work, HR, market analysis, policy and social care. 

What do you study in Psychology? 

You’ll explore core domains including cognitive, biological, developmental, social and individual differences, alongside research methods and applied modules such as mental health, wellbeing and educational psychology. You’ll also complete a final-year dissertation focused on a topic of your choice. 

How is Psychology assessed at university? 

Assessment includes research reports, portfolios, presentations, case studies and a final-year dissertation. You’ll receive regular feedback and one-to-one academic support to help you develop your confidence and skills. 

How much does studying Psychology cost and what funding can I get? 

For UK students, tuition fees are £9,535 per year for 2025-26. No fees are paid upfront, and repayments begin only once you earn over £25,000 per year. Birmingham Newman University offers financial support including bursaries, scholarships and flexible payment plans.
