What do I need to study Occupational Therapy at university? 

To study Occupational Therapy at Birmingham Newman University, you will typically need 112 UCAS points. We welcome applications from a wide range of educational and personal backgrounds, including mature learners and those with non-traditional qualifications. A Foundation Year route is available for those who need additional preparation. 

What jobs can I get with an Occupational Therapy degree? 

Graduates go on to careers in NHS trusts, private healthcare, education, social care, rehabilitation, mental health and community services. Successful completion of the course makes you eligible to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and membership of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists. 

What do you study in Occupational Therapy? 

You will explore topics such as anatomy and physiology, human function, therapeutic interventions, collaborative care and professional values. Modules include evidence-based practice, empowering self and others, and occupational therapy across the lifespan. You will also complete a final-year project focused on your chosen area of practice. 

How is Occupational Therapy assessed at university? 

Assessment is varied and includes reflective writing, clinical skills assessments, presentations, care plans and research projects. You will be supported through regular feedback, simulation-based learning and one-to-one academic guidance. All assessments are mapped to professional standards required for registration. 

How much does studying Occupational Therapy cost and what funding can I get? 

For UK students, tuition fees are £9,535 per year for 2025-26. Fees are reviewed annually and may increase in line with inflation. Birmingham Newman University offers financial support including bursaries, scholarships and flexible payment plans. No fees are paid upfront and repayments begin only once you earn over £25,000 per year.
