Sports Coaching students Deliver Coaching Sessions for Local Primary Pupils

Birmingham Newman University recently welcomed pupils from St Peter’s Primary School to campus as part of the BSc Sport Coaching programme, giving second‑year students the opportunity to apply their learning in a real coaching environment.
The pupils took part in a series of practical sessions designed and delivered by the students, each aligned with Key Stage 2 curriculum outcomes. The initiative allowed students to experience authentic coaching practice—planning, leading and evaluating sessions—while providing the pupils with an engaging, active and enjoyable introduction to sport within a university setting.

Throughout the visit, students demonstrated a strong ability to create a positive and supportive atmosphere, using thoughtful session design and age‑appropriate activities to ensure the children remained enthusiastic and involved. Staff praised the students for their professionalism, energy and commitment to delivering high‑quality coaching experiences.
The collaboration provided clear benefits for both groups: pupils enjoyed interactive and structured physical activity, while Newman students gained valuable hands‑on experience that supports their academic and professional development.
The University looks forward to building on this successful partnership and continuing to offer meaningful school–university engagement opportunities in future.
