Password reset instructions – link to document

Have you forgotten your password or is your Birmingham Newman Email Account locked?

Should you forget your Birmingham Newman email account password, or become locked out of your account, you can reset your password or unlock your account yourself, without needing to wait for the IT Service Desk.

When clicking into OurNewman, this takes you to the following page. You can reset your password or unlock your account via the ‘Can’t access your account link’.

Select Work or School account, when prompted.

  1. Enter your Newman email address in full, in the email or username box
    • For staff, use the following format j.bloggs@staff.newman.ac.uk
    • For students, use the following format abcd123@newman.ac.uk
  2. Enter the characters as shown in the picture on your screen (this is case sensitive) and click ‘Next.
    • If you are creating your password for the first time, or you have forgotten your password, select “I forgot my password”, and click “Next”.
    • If you know your password but are locked out of your account, choose “I know my password, but still can’t sign in”, and click “Next”
  3. You will see the image below;
    • Choose ‘email my alternate email’
    • Click the blue email button for a verification code to be sent to your personal email address, which you registered with the University.
  4. A verification code will then be sent to your personal email address, from Microsoft on behalf of Birmingham Newman University. Enter the code and press Next.
  5. You will then be asked to set a new password and confirm. Then click Finish.

The password needs to meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum of 8 characters,
  • At least one number
  • At least, one upper case letter
  • At least one special character (e.g. @, !, $ etc)

Once you have reset your password, you can now log in via OurNewman on the Birmingham Newman website or the OurNewman App on your mobile device

How to sign into the Applicant Portal

Setting a password for your applicant portal account – link to document
  1. Go to Moodle
  2. Click the Lost Password link to set a password when signing in for the first time
  3. Enter your Newman student ID number (seven-digit number) and press Search
  4. Your personal details will then be displayed. Check these details are correct and press send email
  5. You will the receive a password recovery email to your personal email address. This will be an email from portal-admin@newman.ac.uk (please ensure to check your junk/spam folder)
  6. Click on the link within the password recovery email and create a new password
  7. Once you have set your password you will be logged into the applicant portal
  8. Click on the green box that says ‘My Newman for Applicants’
  9. Once you’ve clicked on the green box, scroll down and click on the ‘Start Online Enrolment’ link underneath the ‘Online Enrolment’ tab
    • PLEASE NOTE: If you cannot see the Online Enrolment tab, please email registry@newman.ac.uk and they will be able to assist you further
  10. Once you have completed your Online Enrolment, you will be emailed your Birmingham Newman email address (e.g. abcd123@newman.ac.uk) and instructions on how to log in and register for Multi Factor Authentication (MFA). This email will be sent to you within 24 hours after completing your online enrolment.

PLEASE NOTE: To log back into the applicant portal go to Moodle. Enter your Newman ID (7-digit number) and the password you have recently created.

Connecting to Wi-Fi on campus

To connect to the University’s Wi-Fi, please select Eduroam from your available networks on your device:

Apple devices (mobile phones/iPad)
  1. Download the app ‘Get eduroam’ from the app store
  2. In the search field, please enter the organisiation as Birmingham Newman University.
  3. In the profiles section choose older certificate username/password method. Click connect. Do not use the modern certificate method.
  4. Enter your Newman username@newman.ac.uk and password
  5. Select Allow
  6. Select Join Wi-Fi network eduroam
  7. You will now be connected to eduroam
Android devices
  1. Download the app ‘Get eduroam’ from the play store
  2. In the search field, please enter the organisiation as Birmingham Newman University.
  3. In the profiles section choose older certificate username/password method. Click connect. Do not use the modern certificate method.
  4. Enter your Newman details ‘username@newman.ac.uk’ and password
  5. Select save
  6. Select Allow Wi-Fi network eduroam
  7. You will now be connected to eduroam
Windows 11 devices
  1. Go to https://www.geteduroam.app/
  2. Select Windows, then click Intel/AMD and this will then download a file
  3. Open the downloaded file and select ‘Connect to eduroam’
  4. Enter the organisiation as Birmingham Newman University
  5. Choose Modern Certificate method for staff and students and press Next
  6. Sign in with your Newman email address and your password:
    • For staff, use the following format j.bloggs@staff.newman.ac.uk
    • For students, use the following format abcd123@newman.ac.uk
  7. You will need to approve the sign-in via Multi-Factor Authentication
  8. Click ‘Approve’ when asked to connect your account to Eduroam on the device you are using
  9. Click ‘Install’ then select ‘Yes’ on the window that pops up and click Next
  10. This may take a few minutes to connect, when connected, close the window.
MacBooks
  1. Open Safari and go to cat.eduroam.org. (NOTE: choose older certificate method username/password and NOT modern certificate method, when prompted)
  2. Select ‘Click here to download your Eduroam installer’
  3. Search for Birmingham Newman University in the ‘Organisation section’
  4. Download your selected Eduroam installer and select ‘Allow’ then ‘Close’
  5. Go to: Settings on the macbook. Then select ‘General’, ‘Profiles’ then ‘Install’
  6. Enter your username@newman.ac.uk and password
  7. You should now be connected to eduroam
Chromebooks
  1. Open your browser and go to cat.eduroam.org. (Note: choose older certificate method username/password and NOT modern certificate method, when asked)
  2. Select ‘Click here to download your Eduroam installer’
  3. Search for Newman University in ‘Organisation’
  4. Download your selected Eduroam installer and select ‘Allow’
  5. Open your browser and type in, chrome://network and press enter
  6. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, where it says Import ONC file, click choose file
  7. Find the file that you downloaded in Step 4, select the file and click open
  8. Go to your settings and open the Wi-Fi Networks. Click on Eduroam
  9. Scroll down and under identity enter username@newman.ac.uk and enter your Newman password
  10. Press connect
  11. You should now be connected to Eduroam
