Our Vision speaks to our ambitions for the future as well as who we are now.

Our Vision is supported by three Strategic Goals that identify key areas of focus. These Strategic Goals are underpinned by seven Strategic Priorities which will enable our Vision to become a reality.

We will achieve the best outcomes for all through our inclusive student experience focused on delivering future-fit graduates.

We will improve the impact of our University and extend the contribution our students make to our communities and society.

We will grow as a whole University in a sustainable way, increasing our student population while leveraging our values and strengths.

  1. Growing our numbers of future-fit graduates who are enabled by digital literacy and transferable skills.
  2. Sustaining an innovative and inclusive research-informed curriculum, flexibly delivered to enable each student to support their own learning.
  3. Ensuring our inclusive approach to University education and focus on wellbeing deliver a high quality
    learning experience and excellent outcomes for all students.
  4. Extending the visibility and reach of the University nationally and internationally, while strengthening
    our engagement with partners, employers and alumni in our region and beyond.
  5. Developing the talent and skills of our staff, recognising the critical contribution they make to the
    overall success of the University.
  6. Transforming systems and ways of working, including automation, digitisation and AI, to enhance
    how we teach, learn and work.
  7. Ensuring our campus and our physical and digital learning environments are sustainable and fit for the future.

Our Mission is rooted deep in our heritage and defines why we exist and the positive impact we seek to make in the world today and in the future.

Throughout the consultation process in developing our Vision and Strategy, we heard just how important our Values are to all members of our communities. We have not sought to change the Values that make Birmingham Newman such a special place, but to authentically capture the principles that guide our behaviours, decisions and culture.

We treat each and every person, in each and every community with dignity and respect.

We put student success and wellbeing at the centre of everything we do.

We are ambitious for our staff, our students and the University.

Strategic Framework 2020 – 2025

The 2020 – 2025 Strategic Framework is derived from conversations with staff, students and our wider communities. It represents a widely shared view of the future of Birmingham Newman University, and provides a vision and ambition for the next five years.

This framework presents our objects, vision, mission, values and six strategic objectives, with a focus on working in partnership with, and transforming the lives of our students.
