Birmingham Newman Celebrates Green Week 2026 with Campus‑Wide Events

Birmingham Newman will host its annual Green Week from 23 to 27 February 2026, bringing students, staff, and community partners together for a programme dedicated to sustainability, wellbeing, and climate action.
The week-long event aims to inspire meaningful engagement with environmental issues while showcasing the University’s ongoing commitment to sustainable development.
Across the five days, the campus will come alive with hands-on activities, interactive exhibitions, wellbeing sessions, and opportunities for the community to learn more about eco-friendly living. From nature walks and creative workshops to charity stalls and expert talks, Green Week offers something for everyone.
Kicking off on Monday, students can get involved in garden decoration making with the Students’ Union, meet Transport for West Midlands representatives, and speak with Climate Ambassadors about their work supporting sustainability initiatives. On Tuesday, the Sports Department leads a bird bingo nature walk, while the atrium hosts a large visitor exhibition featuring partners including BFOE, Biffa, and community police officers.
Midweek activities include terrace planting sessions, a visit from Eco Birmingham, and the SU’s popular Cuppa and Chat, which will open discussions about sustainability and student wellbeing. Thursday’s highlights include a selection of charity shop stalls, encouraging students to explore more sustainable fashion choices, alongside a Newman stall offering freebies and information.
Friday rounds off the week with a calming green yoga nature meditation session in DA116, followed by a community film screening of The Lorax in ST002. The day will conclude with the announcement of the winner of this year’s Green Week photography competition, which has encouraged students to capture their own interpretations of nature and campus sustainability.
Alongside the scheduled events, a number of ongoing activities will run throughout the week. These include a Green Week menu in the Bistro, an informational Atrium stand, a photography competition display on campus screens, a sports challenge in the Gym, and the chance to share your views through the SU’s ‘Your Say on Sustainability’ campaign.
Green Week forms part of Birmingham Newman’s wider effort to empower students and staff to take everyday action that contributes to a more sustainable future. By providing accessible, community‑focused activities, the University hopes to continue fostering environmental awareness and positive behaviour change across campus.
Students and staff are encouraged to drop into as many events as they can during the week and get involved in shaping a greener Birmingham Newman.
