Our Master of Public Health (MPH) degree will support you to work in a variety of organisations nationally and internationally to protect and promote the health of groups and communities. You will learn how to use research, empirical evidence, epidemiology, statistics and national and international policies, to address inequalities in health and improve health for a range of populations. The MPH programme has been developed to align with public health standards in the UK and is taught by academics with a wealth of experience in promoting and improving population health. The MPH programme has been developed to enable you to take your own experience, reflect on it and apply new knowledge to advance your understanding. Our student-centred approach will support your learning and enable you to consider your own areas of interest and also to expand your learning into whole new areas.

A career in public health whether you are from a medical or non-medical background is both rewarding and challenging. Working to improve a population’s health may be undertaken by a range of public health practitioners and specialists working in statutory and voluntary settings. Whether you already work in the public health arena or are considering a new direction, the MPH degree will support your career choices.

The recent Covid 19 pandemic has demonstrated the requirement for public health practitioners and specialists to improve population health in challenging and serious times. However public health practitioners and specialists are always required to work towards increasing health across groups and communities and to decrease health inequalities no matter what the context.
Our MPH will not only be useful if you are already working in, or wish to pursue a career in public health, but could help you to develop a successful career in a wide variety of areas. MPH graduates are well suited to work in the voluntary and private sectors as well as in health services including the NHS and in Local Authorities. This could include for example working in Health and Public Health Management, Health Promotion, Health Education, Health Training, Smoking Cessation, Housing, Community Development, Wellbeing, Community Support, Health Inequalities, Public Health Research, Public Health Lecturing.

Our Master of Public Health degree will enable you to understand and apply contemporary aspects of public health theory and practice including epidemiology, medical statistics, health promotion and protection, assessing, planning & evaluating public health interventions and research methods. You will be supported to undertake a dissertation on a topic of interest supported by a health academic. The programme topic areas will be considered within a national and international context.

Entry Requirements

Undergraduate Degree of at least 2:2 Classification, preferably in a health-related discipline.

Students who do not meet the above criteria may be considered based on equivalent qualifications and/or relevant work experience in a public health related discipline with evidence of role(s) and experience gained. You may be called for an interview to discuss your application further.

Plus:
• GCSE/IGCSE English language and maths grades 9-4/A*-C or equivalent
• IELTs Level 6.5 in all areas
