What does this course cover?
What you’ll study and how you’ll learn. You will study two specialist modules: Developing and Embedding Knowledge of Attachment, Trauma and Mental Health in Learning Relationships, and Supporting Transformation to Attachment Aware and Trauma Informed Practice. These explore key areas including the impact of adverse childhood experiences, trauma-related neurobiology, emotionally responsive practice and the role of early relationships in shaping long-term outcomes. Learning is delivered online through six taught sessions per module, supported by networking events, case studies and opportunities for critical reflection. You will engage with current research and apply theory to your own professional context, supported by experienced tutors and a collaborative peer group.

How Will I Be Assessed?

Assessment on the Attachment, Trauma & Mental Health PG Cert is designed to be practical, reflective and relevant to your professional role. Each module includes a single applied assessment: for Module 1, you will design a presentation to share your understanding of a key concept; for Module 2, you will produce a resource such as a policy, development plan or training tool, accompanied by a critical reflection. These tasks are intended to help you connect theory with practice and demonstrate your ability to lead trauma-informed and attachment-aware approaches in your setting. There are no formal written exams.

Entry requirements

We welcome students from all backgrounds and accept a wide range of qualifications. If yours aren’t listed, don’t worry – our Admissions Team can help you explore your options. See full entry requirements.

A relevant honours degree, 2:2 or above.

If English is not your first language, you must have an IELTS score of 6.5, with no element below 6.0. (Other English language qualifications are also accepted. Please contact admissions for further information).

Consideration will be given to applicants with lower grade in qualifications (e.g. a 3rd class degree or non-honours degree) who have a relevant range of post study professional experience. Professional experience will be considered by the programme leader in conjunction with the quality office on an individual basis.

Course fees

The tuition fee for academic year 2025/26 is: £2,950

Fees for the 2026/27 academic year are subject to change and will be published here on 9 February 2026.

Additional costs

The University will review tuition fees and increase fees in line with any inflationary uplift as determined by the UK Government, if permitted by law or government policy, in subsequent years of your course. It is anticipated that such increases would be linked to RPI (the Retail Price Index excluding mortgage interest payments).

Developing and embedding knowledge of attachment, trauma and mental health in learning relationships
30 Credits (Compulsory)

This module will enable students to develop and embed knowledge and understanding of the concepts of attachment, trauma, and mental health and to reflect critically on the impact of adverse childhood experiences on brain development, behaviours, and outcomes. They will have the opportunities to explore and critically analyse theories of attachment, trauma and mental health and associated research and perspectives. Throughout the module, there will be opportunities to apply and reflect on attachment, trauma and mental health needs and provision within their own practice.
