Birmingham Newman University History degrees are flexible and innovative, offering students the opportunity to study a wide range of topics from the ancient to the modern world.

We offer BA (SH) History (with Foundation Year) and BA (SH) History, and our graduates have the opportunity to progress on to MA (Hons) Applied Humanities. We attract students who are curious about the past, keen to understand contemporary issues of the day and eager to develop problem-solving skills for future graduate employment.

We are seeking to appoint a teaching-focused historian on a part time basis (0.6 FTE) with a wide knowledge of history and historical approaches, and with a specialism in social, cultural and/or political History in either the early modern or the modern world. We welcome applications from historians with interdisciplinary interests or experiences. We are seeking a creative thinker who is keen to teach across academic boundaries and to encourage students to prepare for employment and for active citizenship.  The post holder will provide high-quality teaching, learning and assessment on the BA History programme and on other related programmes as required.

Applicants must possess a degree in History and must hold a PhD or be near completion. Applicants must also have experience of delivering high-quality teaching in a HE setting and have experience of working with non-traditional and mature students.

Please refer to the job description for further details.

Informal enquiries about this opportunity are very welcome. Please contact Dr Louise Hickman at l.hickman@newman.ac.uk to discuss the role further.
