Compliance with data protection legislation fits with the University’s motto of ‘ex umbris in veritatem’ (out of the shadow into truth) and its mission to respect and encourage the individual integrity of everyone who is a part of the life of the University.

Newman University’s Data Protection Policy is available to download at the bottom of this page. The policy applies to all those individuals and organisations that process personal data on behalf of the University, including but not limited to:

  • employees, consultants, contractors and temporary workers
  • students performing paid or voluntary work for the University
  • organisations associated with, and officially recognised by, the University
  • third parties associated with the University, such as research collaborators.

In accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA 2018)’s requirement, Newman University has a Data Protection Appropriate Policy Document (APD). It is required when an organisation processes special category personal data and criminal offence data under certain specified conditions. Where the substantial public interest legal basis is used for these purposes, or the condition for processing employment, social security and social protection data, an APD is required to be in place, demonstrating that these conditions are compliant with the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Article 5 principles. You can download the Data Protection Appropriate Policy Document from the link below.
