Biography
Pushpa Kumbhat is a lecturer in the Foundation Year at Birmingham Newman University.
While working full-time as a physiotherapist for the NHS, she began her undergraduate studies in history as a part-time student at Oxford University Department of Continuing Education.
As a full-time student, Pushpa completed her BA in History at the University of Reading. She then went on to gain a Masters in Modern History at the University of Leeds which was fully funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. She was awarded her PhD entitled ‘Working Class Adult Education in Yorkshire 1918-1939, by the University of Leeds in 2018. Her PhD research received full funding from a University of Leeds Research Scholarship award. Following her PhD, Pushpa completed a short-term Brotherton Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Leeds.
Her research focuses on the relationship between adult education, women, the British labour movement, socialism, citizenship, and democracy from 1900 to 1945. She has published articles about adult education and the labour movement in Socialist History, Urban History, the History of Education Journal and the Journal of Co-operative Studies.
