Biography

Lisa brings with her over a decade of experience in providing the vision and passion to ensure a high quality of Religious Education to pupils and students of all age ranges.

Possessing the, vision, drive and adaptability to work across the different sectors of the RE world; including schools, school governance, SACRE, Diocesan Synod and Academia to raise the profile and quality of Religious Education.

She began her career in Religious Education as a secondary school teacher in South Yorkshire, where she quickly took on a role as a SACRE member for Sheffield and also took a keen interest in primary education which she developed through her role as a school governor in a local Church of England primary school.

During her teaching career and as part of her Masters study she developed interests in Assessment for Learning and in the relationship dynamics between pupils and practitioners. Lisa spent a year working as the Religious Education PGCE academic tutor at Hallam University before moving to Newman in 2016.

She completed her Doctorate in Education at the University of Sheffield in 2021 after undertaking research into policy enactment of the Prevent Duty Strategy and the implementation of Fundamental British Values on Secondary Schools.

Lisa was awarded the Staff Member of the Year Award 2022 by the Birmingham Newman Students Union

Research Interests

Particular areas of research interest to Lisa are relationship dynamics at play within educational structures and the issues of power and control they involve. Curriculum, how curriculum is used and the powers at play within and behind curriculum is a key focus.
