Biography

Tony Sharma is the Chief Financial Officer at Birmingham Newman University, where he has been a key member of the Leadership Team for over two decades.

A qualified accountant with nearly 30 years of experience spanning both the further and higher education sectors, Tony brings strategic oversight and deep sector knowledge to his role. He leads the University’s Finance, Estates and Campus and Commercial Services teams.

Tony is a passionate advocate for the transformative power of education. His commitment to widening access and supporting student success is reflected in his broader governance work, including his role as an Independent Member of the Board of Governors at Sandwell College.

Originally from outside the Midlands, Tony settled in the region in 2000 and now calls it home. He studied at Wolverhampton Polytechnic and Hull University and is proud to contribute to the educational landscape of the West Midlands.

Outside of work, Tony enjoys walking and spending time with his family.
