- Performance Support Funding:
- Receive up to £1,000* to cover expenses such as travel, competition fees, or specialised equipment.
*The scholarship does not include tuition fee discounts. The funding amount is determined by the University based on the level of scholarship awarded.
Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for the Birmingham Newman University Sports Scholarship Programme, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be currently competing at a high-performance level in their sport (national or international level)
- Have received an offer of a place to study at Birmingham Newman University, or be a current student enrolled in any undergraduate or postgraduate course
- Demonstrate a commitment to both academic excellence and athletic development.
Application process
Candidates will be evaluated based on athletic achievements, academic performance, and personal character. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview and may be asked to showcase their athletic abilities.

- Applicants must be classed as Home Students for fee-paying purposes.
- Applicants must meet the grade requirement of their chosen course of study.
- Scholarships are available for students studying on full-time, campus-based undergraduate programmes in the academic year 2025/26.
- Scholarships can be awarded to new or returning students.
- Meeting the criteria for a scholarship does not automatically guarantee a scholarship.
- Numbers of awards are limited and subject to budget availability.
- Sport Scholarships are awarded on the understanding that students will work with Birmingham Newman University to promote the sport, the subject area, and the University as required.
- The continuation of any Sport Scholarship will be dependent on the recipient making satisfactory academic and sporting progress.
- Failure to achieve both satisfactory academic and sporting standards or any other progression criteria or conditions that may be attached to an award may result in the termination of the scholarship.
