We would like you to keep up to date with societal issues in current affairs by reading high-quality e-newspapers such as The Guardian or The Independent, and formulating your views on news stories about counselling, mental health, education, society, or cultural matters (topics such as: poverty, discrimination, housing and education etc.).

Think about (and keep a journal if you want to) your reactions to such stories; how did the stories make you feel and why? And try to consider why you might have had the reaction you did. What has influenced your view of those topics in the media?

During your induction you will be able to:

Your induction will provide you with an opportunity to meet your peers and lecturers. Most importantly, this will be an opportunity to get to know us, and each other. You will also be introduce to your first year and be able to ask any questions you may have about the course and what your first year might look like.

Full details of your individual academic timetable, including Semester 2 timetable which may differ, will be available via your university email calendar after you have completed the pre-arrival task online and set up your student login.

Module delivery

In your first semester you will be studying two modules; COU441: Humanistic Counselling and Academic Practice and WWU431 Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

COU441 will introduce you to one of the main theories which is foundational to counselling practice, therapeutic support, health care and education. You will also be supported to develop your academic skills.

WWU431 will engage you in considering the importance equality, diversity and inclusion in person-centred practice.
