At Birmingham Newman, our governance and leadership structures reflect our commitment to academic excellence, transparency, and our Catholic foundation.
As a self-governing and legally independent institution, we are guided by a dedicated University Council, Senate, and Leadership Team who work collaboratively to shape our mission, uphold our values, and ensure the effective delivery of education, research, and student support.

Julie Etchingham, Pro Chancellor
The Pro Chancellor acts as an advocate and ambassador of the University and represents it in a ceremonial and representative capacity.
Martin Stringer, Vice-Chancellor
Professor Stringer joined Birmingham Newman University Council as a Catholic member in January 2024 and was appointed Chair of Council from April 2025.


Professor Jackie Dunne, Vice-Chancellor
Professor Jackie Dunne has been Vice-Chancellor of Birmingham Newman University since March 2020.
