Digital and You

You will need to use digital technology throughout your course whatever subject you are studying.

This page explains what that will mean for you and how we will support you. Watch the video below first for an overview.

How are you with digital now?

Complete the following short questionnaire to see how much you know about digital basics and how confident you are with that.

Once you’ve completed the diagnostic questionnaire, consider the recommendations below before starting your course and after you begin your studies.

Before starting your course

Your digital devices

If you have not yet got yourself a computer and are thinking about doing that, we recommend that you get a Microsoft Windows-based device. Birmingham Newman University uses Microsoft Windows and Microsoft 365 applications, and many employers, including most schools and NHS trusts, also make use of windows-based systems.

HeadStart

Consider signing up for sessions and workshops on our HeadStart course that runs in September – there will be sessions on digital for your course including navigating digital learning systems at Birmingham Newman and how to submit to online assignments. All new prospective students will be emailed information about this closer to the time and instructions on how to join sessions.
