Birmingham Newman Awarded Top National Honour for Nursing Programmes

The University has been named Nurse Education Provider of the Year (pre-registration) at the 2026 Student Nursing Times Awards.
This achievement is a testament to the dedication, expertise, and passion of our staff, students, and partners who work tirelessly to shape the future of nursing – nursing that will make a huge impact on the lives of people in Birmingham and its surrounding regions. It is also a remarkable endorsement of our teaching approach, with the first Nursing cohort due to graduate this year.
The awards ceremony, held on 24 April at JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel, London, provided a great opportunity to recognise our other nominees too: Joshua Thomas Parker-Walsh, Maria Ashton and Lydia Dawson were also nominated for their outstanding efforts. This impressive showing meant our University earned more nominations for the Student Nursing Times Awards 2026 than any other organisation in the whole of Birmingham and the West Midlands.
In a summary of the judges’ comments on the award for Birmingham Newman, our University was said to have: “demonstrated an innovative approach supported by a clear narrative for how they have uniquely impacted on the students’ sense of belonging, students’ confidence and competence, resulting in clear and measurable outcomes for the student and the local health care environment.”

Professor Jackie Dunne MBE, Vice-Chancellor, said:
“This is an incredibly proud moment for our University. Our School of Nursing and Allied Health has worked hard to ensure our courses are student-centred, and delivering on the needs of the NHS, and the community. “This national recognition is a clear demonstration that our courses are both innovative and practice orientated, and that our collaborative approach with students and health professionals is proving to be hugely effective. Congratulations to all those that have contributed to this fantastic success.”
