What does this course cover?
You will begin by studying the foundations of English law, including Contract Law, Criminal Law, Tort Law, Public Law and Equity and Trusts. From the end of your first year, you will specialise in legal practice through modules such as Family Law, Employment Law and Business Law.
The course also includes areas like Immigration and Asylum Law, Medical Law and Ethics, and Alternative Dispute Resolution. Learning is delivered through lectures, seminars and practical workshops, with a strong emphasis on legal research, advocacy and negotiation.

Assessment

You will complete coursework including written assignments, case analyses, oral presentations and simulated legal tasks such as advocacy and negotiation. There are no formal written exams. Instead, the course uses continuous assessment to help you demonstrate your understanding, apply legal principles and develop the skills needed for legal and professional environments. Feedback is developmental and designed to support your progress throughout the degree.
Entry requirements

• A-Level: Grade profile of BBC or 112 UCAS Tariff Points.
• BTEC: Grade profile of DMM. This can be achieved from either an Extended National Diploma or a combination of smaller BTEC qualifications.
• T-levels: A T-level with an overall Merit grade.
If English is not your first language, you must have the following IELTS score:
· Foundation courses: A Secure English Language Test equivalent to IELTS 5.5 IELTS with a minimum of 5.5 in each component.
· Undergraduate courses: A Secure English Language Test equivalent to IELTS 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component.

Course fees & funding
Fees
The tuition fee for academic year 2026/27 is: £9,790. Tuition fees for courses starting May 2026, fall within the 2025/26 academic cycle.

Additional costs
The University will review tuition fees and increase fees in line with any inflationary uplift as determined by the UK Government, if permitted by law or government policy, in subsequent years of your course. It is anticipated that such increases would be linked to RPI (the Retail Price Index excluding mortgage interest payments).

Accreditations and exemptions
The Law with Legal Practice LLB (Hons) is a qualifying law degree awarded by Birmingham Newman University. It is recognised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Bar Standards Board as meeting the academic stage of legal training. While the course does not offer exemptions from other professional bodies, it provides a strong foundation for further study or qualification routes such as the Solicitors Qualifying Examination or Bar training. You will graduate with the academic and practical grounding to pursue a wide range of legal and professional careers.
