Birmingham Newman University is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to take up the role of Head of Initial Teacher Education (ITE). The role presents an exciting opportunity to join a thriving, innovative and vibrant University that values its staff and puts students at the heart.
This senior academic leadership role holds responsibility for the strategic direction, quality and long‑term sustainability of ITE across all routes. ITE sits within the School of Education, one of four Schools within the University, and the postholder will work closely with the School’s leadership team to provide strategic and academic leadership for all ITE provision, driving quality, growth and sustainability through strong partnerships, recruitment, regulatory compliance and an excellent trainee experience aligned to national policy and workforce needs
You will lead the continued development of ITE through effective portfolio planning, recruitment strategy and partnership working, strengthening the University’s position within the regional initial teacher education market. Central to the role is building strong relationships with schools and multi‑academy trusts, driving innovation and ensuring an excellent and inclusive trainee experience.
At a time of significant change in the teacher education landscape, this role offers the opportunity to shape future direction, enhance impact and ensure that Birmingham Newman’s teacher education provision continues to make a strong contribution to the regional workforce and the wider sector.
We are seeking a credible and experienced ITE leader with Qualified Teacher Status, substantial higher education experience, and a strong commitment to inclusive, research‑informed teacher education.
