We are seeking an Infrastructure Engineer to join our Digital & IT Services Directorate. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting and maintaining the University’s IT infrastructure, ensuring reliable, secure, and high-performing services that underpin teaching, learning, and professional operations.
Working as part of a collaborative team, you will contribute to the delivery and continuous improvement of core systems across on-premise and cloud environments, helping to enhance the overall digital experience for staff and students.
This role will be required to:
- Operate and maintain the University’s IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, backups, endpoint security, and Microsoft 365 services
- Support both on-premise and cloud-based infrastructure hosting environments
- Resolve technical issues and escalations from the Service Desk and support teams within agreed SLAs
- Monitor systems proactively, identifying trends and potential issues to prevent service disruption
- Maintain system security through patching, monitoring, and security controls
- Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
We are looking for candidates with:
- Proven experience supporting, maintaining, and operating IT infrastructure environments
- Strong working knowledge in at least one of the following areas:
- Networking (LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, cloud connectivity)
- Infrastructure hosting (virtualisation and cloud platforms such as Azure)
- Microsoft 365 and collaboration tooling
- IT security, monitoring, and endpoint management solutions
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- The ability to analyse and resolve complex technical issues
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
- The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- A customer-focused approach
- Strong attention to detail
- A proactive mindset, with a focus on continuous improvement
- A willingness to learn and stay up to date with emerging technologies
