This is an excellent opportunity for someone experienced in working with disabled students in HE to help to shape the work of the Disability and Inclusion Team at Birmingham Newman University.
The person in this role will take the lead in ensuring that students can fully engage with their studies and achieve success by providing support, advising on, promoting and proactively influencing inclusive practice in learning, teaching and assessments and developing strategies and policies that support students and help to ensure a supportive and inclusive approach is taken across the university.
The successful candidate will manage the Disability and Inclusion team, ensuring a pro-active and knowledgeable service is provided to students and staff. This includes providing oversight of complex student cases, liaising with colleagues to develop processes and procedures that support continuous improvement of support for disabled students, or, working with committees and working groups to advise on and implement legislative and regulatory requirements. With line management for the Disability Adviser, it is a fantastic opportunity to work together to drive positive experiences and outcomes for students.
The role would suit someone with experience of working in disability support services in higher Education, who has a good understanding of legislative and regulatory frameworks that apply to students in HE. They would also benefit in understanding the range of students needs in terms of university life, including communication and learning needs, but also how funding and statutory support can ensure these needs are met. The ideal candidate would have knowledge, experience and confidence in advising students, staff and committees alike – from day to day case management through to large scale strategic projects.
Informal enquiries about this opportunity are very welcome. Please contact Amy Hilton at a.hilton@staff.newman.ac.uk, to discuss the role further.
