Birmingham Newman University is expanding its computer science teaching team and is seeking visiting lecturers to support delivery across our undergraduate and postgraduate computing degrees.
This is an excellent opportunity for industry specialists, experienced academics, PhD students, and emerging educators who want to contribute to practical, student-focused computing education.
We are particularly interested in applicants with expertise across areas including cyber security, software engineering, artificial intelligence and machine learning, data science and analytics, human-computer interaction, games development, robotics, databases, programming, web and mobile development, cloud technologies, systems architecture, and other areas aligned to our growing computing portfolio.
Visiting lecturers undertake varied work include module teaching material development, teaching, assessment preparation and guidance, marking, moderation, and module-related student support. You will work with a friendly and supportive academic team in a university that puts students first and values applied learning, professional relevance and inclusive education.
We welcome applications from industry professionals who can bring current sector practice into the classroom and help students connect theory with real-world computing challenges. We also welcome applications from PhD students who are looking to build teaching experience in a supportive higher education environment.
Birmingham Newman University has recently invested in a new high-spec computer science and robotics lab, strengthening our ability to provide students with practical, hands-on experience using current technologies. Visiting lecturers will have the opportunity to contribute to this developing area and help shape the student learning experience as our computing provision continues to grow.
Applicants should hold an undergraduate degree in computer science or a closely related discipline. A postgraduate qualification, higher education teaching experience, professional computing experience, or specialist industry expertise would be desirable.
The hourly rate is up to £50 per hour, depending on experience and the duties undertaken.
