We have an exciting opportunity for a Primary Education specialist to join our team as a Senior Lecturer in Primary Initial Teacher Education. The successful candidate will contribute to our well-established undergraduate and postgraduate teacher training programmes and play a key role in the ongoing development of our Primary Initial Teacher Education provision delivered through our extensive partnership network.

We are seeking a highly motivated, organised and enthusiastic individual who can inspire and engage trainee teachers in developing their knowledge and understanding of both the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework and the Key Stages 1 and 2 National Curriculum. Applicants should possess a strong breadth of knowledge across the Primary curriculum, and experience of teaching within the EYFS would be advantageous.

The role requires demonstrable leadership experience, gained either within Higher Education or a school setting, alongside experience of teaching on Initial Teacher Education programmes. Leadership experience may have been acquired through senior leadership positions or through leading a subject area, curriculum initiative, phase, year group, or other significant educational development. Applicants should be able to evidence their expertise through relevant qualifications and professional experience spanning both EYFS and Primary education.

The post holder will work closely with colleagues across our partnership schools to develop and maintain strong professional relationships, ensuring that all trainees receive high-quality mentoring and support throughout their training. A commitment to providing effective pastoral support, fostering student wellbeing, and enabling trainees to develop into confident and independent professionals is essential.

The successful candidate will join a well-established, supportive, friendly team who are fully committed to excellence and aim to provide outstanding student experiences at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. We have developed a shared vision for educational excellence with our partner schools, and our courses reflect our commitment to partnership working and training the next generation of primary teachers.

The post holder will be supported to develop research, enterprise and scholarly activities which are integral to the post.

Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree and have Qualified Teacher Status. Experience of teaching in primary schools is essential and prior experience of working in Initial Teacher Training is desirable. A higher degree would be desirable to fulfil the requirements of this post.

Informal enquiries about this opportunity are very welcome. Please contact Chris Ludlow, at C.Ludlow@staff.newman.ac.uk, to discuss the role further
