Biography
Cassie is a BACP-registered Counsellor and an accredited Psychotherapist with both the UKCP and UPCA.
She combines a flourishing private psychotherapy practice with her academic role at Birmingham Newman University.
Prior to retraining as a Psychotherapist in 2015, Cassie built a successful career spanning over 15 years in healthcare and mental health-related sectors across the region. Her teaching career began in Further Education, where she delivered Counselling Skills and Theory courses to adult learners. In 2021, she transitioned into Higher Education, joining Newman as a Lecturer in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
Cassie’s commitment to excellence in teaching and learning is recognised through her Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy having been awarded a distinction for her Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education. She received her Senior Lectureship in August 2025
Profile
Research Interests
Cassie’s research interests focus on professional identity development and psychological wellbeing within therapeutic training. Her MSc dissertation, which received a distinction, explored Imposter Phenomena among trainee therapists.
Teaching
Cassie teaches across the full spectrum of professional and academic Counselling and Psychotherapy programmes at Newman University, from Level 4 to Level 7.
She is the Module Leader for module involving Counselling Skills, Ethics and Contextual Issues and Mental Health, Wellbeing and Distress.
In addition to leading multiple case discussion groups that support students in clinical practice, she facilitates personal development groups aimed at enhancing reflective practice and self-awareness. She also supports student as a dissertation supervisor at undergraduate and post graduate levels.
