Sport at Birmingham Newman University prepares you for a wide range of careers across sport, health, education and performance. You will graduate with the scientific knowledge, practical skills and professional insight needed to support athletes, promote physical activity and lead in sport-related roles. Our graduates go on to work in coaching, therapy, performance analysis, education, health promotion and elite sport.

What do I need to study Sport at university? 

You typically need 112 UCAS points. A Foundation Year route is available for those with fewer points or relevant life experience. We welcome applications from mature learners and those with non-traditional qualifications. 

What jobs can I get with a Sport degree? 

Graduates can pursue careers in coaching, sport science, therapy, education, performance analysis, health promotion and leadership. Many work with elite athletes, in schools, with community organisations or in private practice. 

What do you study in a Sport degree? 

You’ll explore areas such as physiology, biomechanics, psychology, nutrition, performance analysis and strength and conditioning. You’ll also complete placements and a final-year dissertation aligned to your interests. 

How is Sport assessed at university? 

Assessment includes coursework, practical tasks, presentations, portfolios and research projects. You’ll receive regular feedback and one-to-one academic support to help you develop your confidence and skills. 

How much does studying Sport cost and what funding can I get? 

For UK students, tuition fees are £9,535 per year for 2025-26. No fees are paid upfront and repayments begin only once you earn over £25,000 per year. Birmingham Newman University offers financial support including bursaries, scholarships and flexible payment plans.
