We are here to support you from the very beginning of your journey.

Our first session will take place in September (TBC). In that session you will find out more about your degree, how it works, and how we can help you shape your studies around your interests, goals, and commitments.

It will also be a chance to meet fellow students, connect with the teaching team, and begin building relationships within the Applied Humanities community. We look forward to seeing you there.

Throughout the year, you will take part in teaching sessions designed to support your learning at key points in the programme. Alongside these, you will have access to academic life coaching, providing personalised guidance, encouragement, and support throughout your studies.

You will engage with your degree in three main ways:

Independent Study

Independent study encourages lifewide learning by helping you connect your academic work with your personal, professional, and lived experiences. We recognise that valuable learning takes place beyond the classroom, and this degree is designed to build on the knowledge, skills, and perspectives you already bring.

Directed Activities

Each month, you will access a range of engaging online resources and activities through our virtual learning environment. These materials are designed to introduce new ideas, encourage critical thinking, and help you apply humanities perspectives to real-world issues and experiences.

Coaching

Coaching is a central part of the Applied Humanities experience. You will have dedicated time with a member of the programme team to reflect on your progress, set goals, and shape your learning around your personal and professional ambitions. Alongside a monthly one-to-one coaching session, you will also have the opportunity to attend supportive group coaching sessions with staff and fellow students.

You will be supported by Sian Campbell, who bring a wide range of professional, academic, and real-world experience to this interdisciplinary degree.

Our programme is built around the ideas of lifelong and lifewide learning, recognising that valuable learning happens across work, education, relationships, and everyday life. We value the unique experiences and perspectives you bring with you and use these as a foundation for meaningful discussion, reflection, and personal growth throughout your journey.
