During induction week, you will be introduced to the programme, teaching team and expectations of university-level study while helping you feel part of a supportive learning community. Familiarity with essential technical tools, such as programming environments, online platforms and university systems, will enable you to begin coding and accessing resources from the outset.

At the same time, you will be guided in developing key study skills, including problem-solving, computational thinking, time management, writing, referencing and maintaining academic integrity, alongside the awareness of professional and ethical issues in computing, such as responsible technology use, security and data ethics.

Induction week will spark curiosity and highlight real-world applications, supported by hands-on activities like coding exercises, interaction with robots and lab sessions. Opportunities to connect with peers, form study groups and engage with mentors will help foster collaboration and belonging.

Your journey into the world of Computer Science starts here with a powerful first step into one of the most exciting fields of the modern age. In your first year, you’ll build a strong and confident foundation, exploring the core ideas that drive today’s digital world.

Through hands-on practical and engaging modules: Developing as a Computer Scientist, Programming Fundamentals, Fundamentals of Web Design, Object Oriented Programming & Data Structures, Database Design & Development and Fundamentals of Systems & Networking, you’ll develop essential technical skills with conceptual underpinnings. Alongside this, you’ll be introduced to the professional world of computing by developing awareness of ethical responsibilities, industry standards and the broader impact of technology in society.

You won’t just learn concepts, you’ll apply them, tackling real problems and designing smart, practical solutions using modern tools and technologies. From your very first semester, you’ll start creating, innovating and thinking like a future tech leader.

Dr. Adnan N. Qureshi

Dr. Adnan N. Qureshi received his Ph.D. from the Institute for Research in Applicable Computing (IRAC), University of Bedfordshire, UK. His research areas include bio-medical image and signal processing, computer vision, machine learning, optimization and autonomous systems. He is Programme Leader and Senior Lecturer of Computer Science.

Dr. Vincent Hall

Dr. Vincent Hall is currently working as Lecturer in Computer Science. He is an expert in Data Science and Machine Learning with a first UG masters degree in Physics and Astronomy (Leeds). His MSc was in the Physical Sciences – Life Sciences boundary (Warwick). His PhD entailed creating a Machine Learning method to help Chemists by estimating the structures of proteins with UV light scans. The latest version of this technology, now updated and added to by others, is licenced by Warwick Innovation to Pharma companies, and free for academic use.

Alethe Bailey

Alethe Bailey has a passion for computer science education and a strong commitment to life-long learning. She is convinced that teachers trained to the highest standards would provide children with the best schooling possible. She worked extensively on a range of computing projects and collaboratively with schools and other establishments to enhance teaching and learning.
