Sport and Exercise Science BSc (Hons)
Dear Students,
Welcome, and congratulations on beginning your journey in Sports & Exercise Science here at Birmingham Newman University. I’m Dr. Ibrahim Akubat, your Programme Lead, and I’m genuinely delighted to have you with us.
You’ve chosen a brilliant field, one that sits right at the heart of science, sport, and human performance. Whether you’re drawn to working with elite athletes, supporting people in the community, or eventually pursuing research, this programme will help you get there.
Over the coming years you’ll be stretched, supported, and I hope surprised by what you’re capable of. The staff here aren’t just lecturers; we’re practitioners and researchers who are still very much active in the field, and we care about your experience on this programme.
Make the most of induction. It’s easy to treat it as admin, but it’s actually where you’ll meet the people who’ll get you through the tough weeks, and start to feel like this place is yours. Ask questions, introduce yourself, and don’t worry about having everything figured out just yet.
I’m looking forward to getting to know you all. Feel free to reach out at any point.
Here’s to a great year ahead.
Warm regards,
Dr. Ibrahim Akubat
