Pre-induction

All and any questions will be discussed in during Welcome and with your Academic Personal Tutor during the semester. We use Moodle for providing a range of online material, which you will be able to access before teaching begins.

Induction activities

Induction offers an introduction to the teaching programme and an opportunity for you to meet the teaching team and the other students. It is an opportunity to ask any questions about your degree. The activities include an icebreaker.

Module delivery

In semester one (September to December 2026), your core modules are:

  • The Past is Never Dead (HSU415)
  • History Without Borders (HSU416)

The approach to teaching maximises student engagement, using a mixture of lectures, seminars and workshops.

Teaching team

Our core staff is Dr Juliette Harrisson, who specializes in the ancient world, Dr Norry LaPorte, who specialises in the modern European history, and Dr William White who specialises in the early modern period.

Dr. Juliette Harrisson is specialist in Ancient History, with a focus on Roman period myth and religion and the reception of the ancient world in modern popular culture, and Roman period myth and religion.

Dr Norry LaPorte is a senior lecturer and specialist in Modern European History, with a focus on German communism and relations between Britain and the former German Democratic Republic, as well as the Weimar Republic.

Dr William White is a lecturer in History and a specialist in the political, religious, and intellectual history of early modern Britain and the Atlantic World, with a particular focus on the revolutionary upheavals of the Civil Wars (c.1640-1670).
