During the welcome week, we will hold an induction seminar where you will learn about our law programme in general and more specifically what is required and expected.
During this induction session you will have the opportunity to ask questions and explore the University’s many facilities.
Click the Lost Password link to set a password when signing in for the first time
Enter your Newman student ID number (seven-digit number) and press Search
Your personal details will then be displayed. Check these details are correct and press send email
You will the receive a password recovery email to your personal email address. This will be an email from portal-admin@newman.ac.uk (please ensure to check your junk/spam folder)
Click on the link within the password recovery email and create a new password
Once you have set your password you will be logged into the applicant portal
Click on the green box that says ‘My Newman for Applicants’
Once you’ve clicked on the green box, scroll down and click on the ‘Start Online Enrolment’ link underneath the ‘Online Enrolment’ tab
PLEASE NOTE: If you cannot see the Online Enrolment tab, please email registry@newman.ac.uk and they will be able to assist you further
Once you have completed your Online Enrolment, you will be emailed your Birmingham Newman email address (e.g. abcd123@newman.ac.uk) and instructions on how to log in and register for Multi Factor Authentication (MFA). This email will be sent to you within 24 hours after completing your online enrolment.
PLEASE NOTE: To log back into the applicant portal go to Moodle. Enter your Newman ID (7-digit number) and the password you have recently created.
Induction
Pre-induction
During the welcome week law students will meet with teaching staff who will during an induction lecture provide general details about the university and specifics about the law programme.
At the start of each module, students will be provided with details of the module requirements including schedule of teaching, learning outcomes and details of the module assessment.
Induction day
Induction day is an important day for all new students. Induction is an opportunity to meet with your lecturers, officially enroll to secure your university id badge which will give you access to university areas via our security system.
Attendance at the law induction lecture will introduce you to university study expectations, our computer system via which you are expected to access our library, databases, assessments, assessment submissions, module lecture content and assignments.

Module delivery
First semester is common to both law programmes and sets the scene for subsequent modules.
All our students will engage in semester long modules to help lay the foundations of learning success.
Students will study and learn crucial legal skills on our module ‘Legal Skills’ and our modules ‘Introduction to Law’ and ‘Public Law’ introduce students to the structural fabric of our legal system.
Each module consists of a lecture providing essential theoretical foundations followed by a workshop which engages students in developing application and problem solving themes.

Our teaching team has a wealth of experience in teaching law, academic research and practice experience as Barristers and Solicitors.
This blend of experience benefits our students in an engaging and thought provoking learning experience.
