Please utilise the link below to access some pre-course tasks. These are voluntary tasks designed to introduce you to our themes and get you thinking about some of the things we will develop during the course.

We will discuss and make further use of these in September so even just having a go at a few of the tasks would be beneficial if you have the time and opportunity to do so.

• PG Secondary ITE pre-course tasks, September 2026

On-site activities on Tuesday 1st September, Thursday 3rd September and Friday 4th September.

Online activities will be provided on Wednesday 2nd.

These days will allow you to meet key individuals such as your subject tutor and academic personal tutor. They will also expose you to the different elements we will utilise during our programme and give you a chance to find out a bit more about how we work as an institution and how we will support you to be successful on the programme.

The goal of our induction activities in this week is for you to touch base with the different elements of the programme without being expected to be an expert in any of them by the end of that first week. This will set you up to hit the ground running when teaching begins in earnest the following week.

Tuesday 1 September (10am)

All PGCE Secondary subjects

• 10:00 – 12:00 in room ST111, and
• 13:00-15:00 in room ST111

Thursday 3 September (9am to 12pm)

The course starts on 1 September.

Teacher training courses are a full-time commitment. When you are on placement you will be expected to attend all day Monday to Friday.

For on campus activities students are split into groups at enrolment. For some activities these will be subject specific groups, others will be mixed subjects. Required attendance will be Monday to Friday 9.00 – 17.00

Full details of your individual academic timetable, including Semester 2 timetable which may differ, will be available via your university email calendar after you have completed the pre-arrival task online and set up your student login.

Our teaching blocks are structured around our 4 themes:

• The Role of the Teacher
• Teaching, Learning and Assessment
• Adaptive Practice
• Understanding and Managing Behaviour.

Some sessions are whole-cohort professional studies sessions introducing central ideas in these themes.

Other sessions are subject-based, where you learn more about how that theme will work with respect to your subject in school.

All of this is underpinned by subject knowledge, which you will also be discussing and working on in your subject-based sessions.
