Go to Moodle
Click the Lost Password link to set a password when signing in for the first time
Enter your Newman student ID number (seven-digit number) and press Search
Your personal details will then be displayed. Check these details are correct and press send email
You will the receive a password recovery email to your personal email address. This will be an email from portal-admin@newman.ac.uk (please ensure to check your junk/spam folder)
Click on the link within the password recovery email and create a new password
Once you have set your password you will be logged into the applicant portal
Click on the green box that says ‘My Newman for Applicants’
Once you’ve clicked on the green box, scroll down and click on the ‘Start Online Enrolment’ link underneath the ‘Online Enrolment’ tab
- PLEASE NOTE: If you cannot see the Online Enrolment tab, please email registry@newman.ac.uk and they will be able to assist you further
Once you have completed your Online Enrolment, you will be emailed your Birmingham Newman email address (e.g. abcd123@newman.ac.uk) and instructions on how to log in and register for Multi Factor Authentication (MFA). This email will be sent to you within 24 hours after completing your online enrolment.

PLEASE NOTE: To log back into the applicant portal go to Moodle. Enter your Newman ID (7-digit number) and the password you have recently created.

Pre-induction

Prior to the course, please reach out to Liz and Miranda (elizabeth.titley@staff.newman.ac.uk) and (m.barker@staff.newman.ac.uk) to introduce yourself, sharing your experience and any specific interest that you might wish to pursue in your research project.

Thomas, Gary (2025) How to Do Your Research Project: A Guide for Students – this is the fifth edition but earlier versions are helpful too.
Bartlett, Steve and Burton, Diana (2020) Introduction to Education Studies: Key Issues 5th Edition

We would also recommend that you spend time familiarising yourself with key developments in the education sector by engaging with news articles and wider reading.

During the induction we will introduce you to the teaching team, give you opportunities to get to know each other and provide you with guidance about how to achieve the best in your studies.

Timetable

- 13.00-16.00
- (Also 16.00-17.00 on some weeks)

Full details of your individual academic timetable, including Semester 2 timetable which may differ, will be available via your university email calendar after you have completed the pre-arrival task online and set up your student login.

Module delivery

All your teaching will take place on Fridays. You will have five modules which includes the Research Project. Modules include: The Whole Child, Education and Technology, Educational Possibilities and the Sociology of Education.

Teaching team

Your programme lead is Dr. Liz Titley (elizabeth.titley@staff.newman.ac.uk). Liz is passionate about educational equality and social justice as well as educational assessment and curriculum development. She has taught across Education Studies, Early Childhood Studies as well as Working with Children, Young People and Families.

We are a warm, welcoming team who have a range of professional expertise that you will learn more about during your studies with us. Alongside Liz, the Education Studies Team also includes: Miranda Barker, Dr. Steve Dixon, Andrew Edgar, Dr. Linda Enow, Dr. Jo. Trowsdale, Our Head of Subject is Sinead Joyce and our wonderful administrator is Sandra Scott.
